Unheated green sapphire from Anakie, Queensland, Australia. The interference colours are caused by the twin blades (formerly polysynthetic twinnings) which are oriented according to the r, r', et r'' faces of the rhombohedron. Immersion, between crossed polarizer and analyzer.
