Heat-treated bicolour sapphires from Shandong Changle, China. Micrograph collected in immersion on a bright background. The yellow colour is enhanced/induced by the heat treatment. Sapphires from this deposit generally have a very dark blue colour. They are often treated by beryllium diffusion (multi-steps treatment) to lighten them.
