Fine overgrowth of colourless synthetic quartz on a plate of synthetic quartz
Fine overgrowth of colourless synthetic quartz on a plate of synthetic quartz, also colourless (serving as a seed). Observed here parallel to the c axis, between crossed polariser and analyser. The colours observed are reminiscent of the interference colours of the major rhombohedron (Brewster fringes), but this is only a diffraction effect of the trigonal structures, as these hyaline quartz only have the minor rhombohedron which appears almost colourless under these conditions.
