A 24.21-carat yellow sapphire with characteristics similar to those found in Madagascar-origin sapphires
The micrograph reveals a yellow sapphire (24.21 carats) with physicochemical characteristics similar to those of yellow sapphires from Madagascar.
Two black prismatic inclusions have been identified as uranothorianites, and a small cluster of colourless zircons is also visible above the uranothorianite on the right.
The smooth, iridescent appearance of the fissures suggests that the gem has not been heat-treated.
This yellow sapphire also exhibits a slight photochromism and is the subject of a Gem Note soon to be published in the Journal of Gemmology.
